Wellington maximum security prison

KAT was a major contributor in partnership with Star Electrical to excavator and install all the electrical infrastructure and communication systems for Hansen Yuncken.

Following a competitive four week tender process, Hansen Yuncken was awarded the construction of the Macquarie Rapid Build Prison in Central West NSW, one of a number of rapid build correctional centres to be constructed as part of the NSW Government Prison Bed Capacity Program.

The 400 bed rapid build prison concept features a total of 14 individual buildings, four accommodation buildings each with four dormitory pods housing 25 inmates. The facility also includes approximately 5.4 kilometres of security fencing, spanning a total of 13.5 hectares.

Designed to improve inmate productivity and increase their out of cells hours, the new prison floorplan offers greater access to employment, education and programs whilst offering the highest level of security and safety in NSW for officers and inmates.

To address the locality, labour and industry capacity, our team incorporated a range of concurrent build methodologies including offsite prefabricated steel structures, precast concrete structures, prefabricated cladding, Dincel, modular buildings (some over 1,000m²) to enable fast production on site.
